Discover my story

My name is Carl, though some know me as Khyal. I am a psychotherapist and a seeker of inner truth. Growing up in a family system affected by addiction and domestic violence, I faced challenges in developing a healthy sense of self. In my early adult years, unprocessed trauma contributed to depression, anxiety, substance misuse, and fractured relationships.

Seeking support led me to some remarkable teachers and practices that deepened my understanding of human growth and the potential for a new way of being. Through my own therapeutic work, education and immersion in spiritual practices I began to peel back layers of conditioning and embark on my own recovery journey.

While living and working in a community dedicated to self-discovery, I chose the name Khyal, meaning ‘remembrance’ — to remember who you were before you were. The name Khyal reminds me of my commitment to lifelong learning, consciousness, emotional recovery, and relational wellbeing. The path back to oneself is important to me. Walking my talk, or “burning my own wood,” is fundamental to my work with self and others. My approach is grounded in creativity, freedom of expression, and a deep respect for the mystery of life.

What I offer

An opportunity for change. The work integrates somatic awareness, relational skill-building, and evidence-based holistic psychotherapeutic approaches to support clients in reconnecting with their authenticity through;

Cultivating embodied presence

Bringing unconscious relational patterns into awareness

Fostering self-compassion and inquiry as foundations for change

Rather than seeking to “correct” pathology, the process emphasises remembering and reclaiming the self that exists beyond conditioned responses and survival adaptations. Clients are supported in moving toward greater vitality, integration, and wholeness in both their inner and relational lives.

Pathways to transformation and growth

I support you in reconnecting with your inner strengths, building resilience, and creating lasting change. Through a holistic blend of psychotherapy, somatic experiencing, relational skill building, meditation, and group work, we gently renegotiate trauma and long-held patterns of dysregulation. By exploring both root causes and the coping strategies that no longer serve you, we open the way for genuine transformation and a more present, grounded life.

Somatic Experiencing to support the Nervous System

Trauma isn’t just stored in our memories; it is also held in our bodies. Through somatic awareness, clients learn to tune into their physical sensations. When we build awareness of what’s happening somatically we can assist the body in releasing stuck survival energy and help the nervous system to find a sense of safety. Learn to build resilience and widen your window of tolerance.
Trauma Renegotiation

Trauma Renegotiation for Lasting Change

Trauma renegotiation techniques help individuals revisit their traumatic experiences in a safe and manageable way. Processing and integrating the emotional energy attached to those experiences helps clients gain a sense of empowerment, moving from being a victim of their trauma history to reclaiming a sense of agency.

Relational Approach

If we have experienced inter-personal trauma then relationships can be triggering. However, healing happens in connection. Interpersonal work can be challenging, as it asks us to face old relational patterns that keep us isolated and overwhelmed. I support clients in practicing new ways of relating that foster honesty, safety and authenticity in relationship to self and others.

Group Therapy for Connection and Collective Healing

The collective energy of group therapy accelerates the process of change. The process allows individuals to see their challenges reflected in others. People learn from one another through honest sharing and by being mirrored unconscious behaviours that are keeping us stuck. We are required to up skill our ability to communicate functionally, which helps all our relationships.

Meditation to Cultivate Mindfulness and Presence

Meditation practices help us connect with the present moment. Meditation allows individuals to sense the space between their thoughts and emotions which can support softening to a new reality. Building awareness lays the foundation for emotional regulation. Developing mindfulness is a master key for lasting change.
